    Job Description

    The nonprofit Gundalow Company’s mission is to protect the Piscataqua region’s maritime heritage and environment through education and action. To fulfill our mission, we use a recently built, traditional, wooden gundalow as our floating/sailing classroom for school groups, River Rats Camp, Public sails and private charters. The Gundalow office and dock are nearby Prescott Park, with camp programs at Creek Farm - all within Portsmouth, NH.

    Relief Captain: Requires a 100-ton Inland Master’s license with sail endorsement and strong boat handling, expected to sail two regular days a week.

    Onboard Educator/Deckhand: Work onboard the Gundalow “PISCATAQUA” and on shore in a variety of educational roles. This position helps to implement our school programs, camps, public sails, charters, and events. Educators work up to 5 days a week with varying hours.

    Summer Camp Head Counselor: Plan and run our growing camp both on the boat and on shore for kids ages 5-14. Head Counselors will manage camp sessions with up to 18 campers and several other camp staff. Must be available mid-June to mid-August.

    Ticket Sales and Outreach Associate: This new seasonal part-time position provides direct support for communicating the Gundalow Company mission to the public and is expected to increase ticket sales for daily public sails and private charters. Position runs from May into September.

    Education Volunteer: Present Piscataqua Maritime Region specific learning stations to students and the public as part of our shore-based programs and onboard programming. Volunteer may select to work with our school programs May, June, September and October, or as a communicator with the public on shore, onboard the Gundalow, or at events. This is an unpaid position.
