CJ Architects Recognized by Peers for Design Excellence

Receives Award from The American Institute of Architects

PORTSMOUTH, NH, January 30, 2018– CJ Architects, a leading regional architectural design and construction management firm, has received the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honor Award at the annual banquet of AIA New Hampshire.  The Honor Award recognizes CJ Architect’s achievement in executing design excellence in creating its new corporate headquarters in Portsmouth, NH.

Uniquely, CJ Architects used their architecture and construction management skills to act as the architect and the general contractor, as well as the client on the award-winning design and construction of their Portsmouth office space.

“It’s always a special honor to be recognized by the American Institute of Architects.”
said Carla Goodknight, Lead Architect and owner of CJ Architects.

An AIA panel of jurists consisting of leading architects from the New England region noted the firm’s superior design execution of the office space that features clean lines mixing maple and walnut with chrome and soapstone to create an industrial design with a modern European flair.  Custom cabinetry maximizes space and gracefully hides clutter, while an open design allows for efficient workflow.  The open-concept headquarters features 12-foot ceilings, walls of glass, clean interior design, a private patio, and a rooftop pool with gardens.

CJ Architects also designed the building where the office is located in downtown Portsmouth and the city’s historic district.   Sustainable technologies such as geothermal heating, efficient fixtures and lighting, and advanced building envelope technologies combine to keep the space environmentally friendly.
