    Prevention Tip
Adjusting to a Change in Seasons

The days are getting colder and shorter as we pivot towards the winter season.

Here are 6 tips of adjusting to a change in seasons:

Nap. Consider taking a 10-15 minute nap in the late afternoon or meditating. This can leave you feeling refreshed but won't affect your sleep schedule.

Exercise. Even though it's getting darker earlier, try to find time in the day to get up, outside, and moving. If the weather permits you from going outside, consider doing yoga or running on a treadmill.

Wear layers! Always wear layers if you're spending time outside. Whether you're out for a run or raking leaves it's always best to be able to add and remove layers to stay comfortable.

Focus on sleep. Your body needs at least 8 hours of sleep every night. 8 hours guarantees you will feel more energized and motivated throughout the day.

Eat more greens. Since holiday season is upon us, it's no secret it's time for treats and warm comfort meals. Make sure you're getting lots of fruit and vegetables in to maintain a healthy diet!

Be happy! Take time out of your day to do something you enjoy. It's just as important to keep your mind healthy as it is your body.

    Got Pain? Eat This!
Cream of Turkey & Wild Rice Soup

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
    • 3/4 cup chopped celery
    • 3/4 cup chopped carrots
    • 1/4 cup chopped shallots
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    • 4 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
    • 1 cup quick-cooking instant wild rice
    • 3 cups shredded cooked turkey
    • 1/2 cup reduced-fat sour cream
    • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

    Directions

Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add mushrooms, celery, carrots and shallots and cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until softened. Add flour, salt, pepper, and cook for 2 minutes more.

Add broth and bring to a boil, scraping up any browned bits. Add rice and reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until the rice is tender, 5-7 minutes.

Stir in turkey, sour cream and parsley and cook until heated through, about 2 minutes more.

Serve with a fresh, crisp salad or whole grain bread and enjoy!
