WINNERS OF 34th BUSINESS IN THE ARTS AWARDS GALA NAMED
TD Bank, Mount Sunapee Resort, Tanger Outlets Tilton and Experimac of Portsmouth were announced as the winners of the Business in the Arts Awards and Barbara Couch was named as the Leadership Award recipient at a gala evening presentation hosted by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on May 7 in Manchester.
The winners were applauded for their outstanding support of the arts through donations of time, money and resources to the arts in their communities and statewide.
TD Bank was lauded for supporting culturally diverse organizations statewide, audience accessibility and making donations organizations on behalf of employees who volunteer more than 40 hours in a year. Mount Sunapee Resort was cited for supporting, hosting and managing the logistics of the annual League of NH Craftsmen fair and bringing the same values of visitor experience to this event as they do for their own business patrons. Tanger Outlets Tilton received accolades for lending space, guidance and promotion in its facility to the Lakes Region Art Association for their exhibits, workshops and weekly drop ins for arts groups that has built a connected arts community. Experimac of Portsmouth was recognized for its support and expertise in creating a digital classroom for the students of the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center and agreeing to a major sponsorship the first month it opened its doors.
Barbara Couch was honored for her long-standing commitment to organizations in the Upper Valley and statewide who have felt the impact of her support through business, foundation and personal donations. She has been labeled a champion of arts and culture by organizations that include AVA Gallery and The Hopkins Center at Dartmouth as well as NH Public Radio and the Upper Valley creative economy efforts. In addition, she is valued for lending her business perspective to many institutions and has created a culture within her own company of giving and community engagement.
Winners were awarded a framed watercolor by New Hampshire artist Sandy Wadlington. Crafts were provided as the table centerpieces by the League of NH Craftsmen. The ArtsBaskets giveaway presentation highlighted the evening’s sponsors and featured cultural goodies including tickets, mugs, CDs and books contributed by New Hampshire’s many cultural organizations. The grand prize of an overnight stay was donated by the Mountain View Grand hotel.
John Clayton was the master of ceremonies. The evening’s performance showcase on stage featured drumming and dance by the Akwaaba Ensemble, a reading by poet Kimberly Cloutier Green, and the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center Faculty Jazz Ensemble which concluded with the attendees joining in with NHBCA kazoos. Providing fun in the lobby before and at the conclusion of the event was Irish and traditional New England music performed by Liz and Dan Faiella. There were also painting demonstrations by students from the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and a pottery and stained-glass demonstration by Studio 550.
