Celebrating The Season with Cultural Traditions

Exhibit & Workshops | Holiday 2022

November 17th-December 23rd   10 am-4 pm

Presented by the Seacoast African American Cultural Center (SAACC)

This Holiday season join the Holiday Celebration at the Seacoast African American
Cultural Center in downtown Portsmouth and explore the commonality and distinctiveness of peoples
and their traditions around the world through the art exhibits, workshops and storytelling in children’s
picture books.

The month -long event exhibit is filled with joyous holiday traditions for Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa celebrations.Learn about holiday celebrations from different cultures such as the Jewish faith, Turkish community, Native American heritage with Holiday displays & explanations of their traditions.

Art “Round Town” Walk Fridays

A Holiday exhibition reception featuring an African Wine Tasting and Cheese event 


HOLIDAY  WORKSHOPS Learning and fun-filled workshops for the entire family

Create your own personalized greeting cards with Courtney Daniels

Comic-book Cartoon Workshop with Chester Buckley. Comic strip creation from A-Z, December 6th, 4:00-6:00 pm Register at event. Workshop Cost $10.

HOLIDAY STORY TIME  2 pm-3:30 pm


Sit and listen to Holiday stories with special appearance by SAACC founder Vernis Jackson on December 23rd.

December 18- Our Eights Nights of Hanukkah

December 23rd – The Night Before Christmas – Retold

Families with young children will enjoy gallery exhibits of wonderfully decorated gingerbread houses and special story time. Exhibits to visit include a children’s craft area.


Contributors

The exhibit will feature artists and creators of all levels from around the Greater Seacoast region.

Walk-ins are welcome! To assure admittance at the time or date you prefer we suggest that visitors make a reservation through the link below. We continue to follow all safety guidelines to protect our volunteers as well as visitors including the wearing of mask and adequate physical distance while visiting our Center.
