Description

The Lakeside Quartet brings the light of day to seldom performed masterworks for string quartet. The Dance Hall, Kittery The ‘Get Cozy’ series continues, bringing dramatic and engaging string quartets to The Dance Hall. The Lakeside quartet discovers exciting string quartets during inspirational summers beside the lake in beautiful New Hampshire. Violinists Zoia Bologovsky and Oksana Gorokhovskiy, violist Oliver Chang and cellist Ivy A. Turner have brought two of their favorites by Frank Bridge and Antonin Dvorak for your listening pleasure. Along with the Lakeside Quartet, MyPSO cellists Jake Copp, Ian Machemer, and Griffin Seuter will be featured in the Catalan folk song "Song of the Birds." After the Spanish Civil War, legendary cellist Pablo Casals began a self-imposed exile in the Catalan-French village of Prades to protest the Franco regime. When the world came to him in response, and a concert series was begun in the tiny village, Casals played the Catalan Carol 'Song of the Birds' at the beginning of each performance as a symbol of Catalonia's bid for freedom from tyranny. Its struggle continues to this day."
