The Up Close and Personal with the PSO @ Jimmy's Chamber Music Series explores the borderlands between jazz and classical music. Portsmouth Symphony musicians showcase the richness, flexibility, and often surprising range of the classical chamber music repertoire in the intimate setting of Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club where barriers between musicians and audience members are broken down and connections are formed. Join clarinetist Santiago Baena Flórez and members of the Portsmouth String section in a night of Colombian Music featuring two suites by composers Jose Revelo Burbano and Alfredo Mejía Vallejo. The suites were commissioned by Baena Flórez in 2016 as part of a grant from the Colombian Ministry of Culture. They reflect on the traditional Andean style of music that is common in Colombia, often referred to as "the land of a thousand rhythms"
