Description
Explore the boundaries between jazz and classical music in this three part series. Each concert in the series features ensembles of PSO musicians who will showcase the richness, flexibility, and often surprising range of the classical chamber music repertoire in Jimmy’s century-old, spectacularly restored, state-of-the-art club. Paired with fine food and libations, this series promises chamber music like audiences have never experienced before.
Join the PSO Brass Quintet for an entertaining and toe-tapping evening of musical theatre and jazz transcriptions for brass. The first set will open with a tribute to Stephen Sondheim and conclude with Leonard Bernstein’s rhythmic and dynamic West Side Story. The second half will feature three early jazz selections by Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller alongside the score to George Gershwin’s groundbreaking opera, Porgy and Bess.
The PSO Brass Quintet is made of up Adam Gallant, trumpet; Greg Bechtold, trumpet; Orlando Pandolfi, horn; Brandon Newbould, trombone; and Jim Griswold, bass trombone.
