The doors open at 5 PM for dinner and there will be a meet & greet with the Music Director of the PSO, John Page, at 5:30 p.m.. The concert starts at 6 p.m..
Join the Portsmouth Brass Quintet for an entertaining juxtaposition of theatre and jazz. The quintet will pay tribute to the Broadway musicals Chicago and a Chorus Line, ahead of their fiftieth anniversaries. They will close the first half with a suite of music from Kurt Weills jazz-influenced Threepenny Opera. The second half will feature American jazz tunes from the early twentieth century. Selections will include "12th Street Rag", "When the Saints Go Marching In", "It Don't Mean a Thing", and "Ain't Misbehavin". The Up Close and Personal with the PSO @ Jimmy's Chamber Music Series explores the borderlands between jazz and classical music. Portsmouth Symphony musicians showcase the richness, flexibility, and often surprising range of the classical chamber music repertoire in the intimate setting of Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club where barriers between musicians and audience members are broken down and connections are formed.
