    About Us

Serving diners since 1887 from our home in the grand and historic Rockingham House, steps from the center of Portsmouth, The Library Restaurant is an upscale steakhouse boasting an original Colonial Revival vaulted mahogany paneled ceiling, three crackling fireplaces, a thirty-seat bar and lounge, and a private dining space under an ornate painted ceiling fresco. For generations the Library has been one of the Seacoasts best loved restaurants, renowned for its prime steaks, award-winning cocktails, warm staff and conscientious approach to sourcing only the highest quality ingredients.

Select ''Dining Rooms'' for white linen service in the main larger dining room and the smaller private room. Both rooms offer a more formal service in a quieter very elegant setting. Both rooms have fireplaces. The smaller room can be hired out in its entirety for private parties and when it is not hired out it is included in the main dining room table availability.

The Bar Lounge is generally for walk ins for less formal, cosy dining close to the fireplace and the bar. However you can select ''Bar Lounge'' to let us know your preference and we will endeavor to keep these for reservations, but its not always possible.

7 to 10 seats at the magnificent bar will always be available for walk-in.

Same great menu offered throughout the restaurant.
