    PORTSMOUTH—
Kinship families in the Greater Lakes Region, Plymouth and the Seacoast will benefit from the $5,000 grant given to nonprofit organization, Step Up Parents, from Meredith Village Savings Bank Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.

The grant will support the individualized needs of kinship families raising the children of parents with substance use disorder as well as allow Step Up Parents to build its organizational capacity and continue to grow during an extremely difficult year that has taken a devastating toll on many families.

“The stress and drain of the pandemic have resulted in an increase in substance misuse, meaning more kinship caregivers are being called upon to step up for the children,” said Denyse Richter, Step Up Parents founder. “Many of these kinship families live in the MVSB service area, so this grant will allow us to continue our work and help these deserving families.”

Since its founding in 2019, Step Up Parents has helped 135, giving more than $55,000 in assistance with the help of generous grants like the MSVB Fund.

“On behalf of the Meredith Village Savings Bank Advisory Committee and the nonprofit community, I want to congratulate Step Up Parents on your work and your unselfish efforts to help make Central New Hampshire a better place,” said Charles G. Hanson, chairman of the MVSB Fund Advisory Committee.
