A Warning about Non-Authorized Service Providers
COVID Update in New Hampshire and at MacEdge
Effective April 16th, Gov. Sununu announced that the statewide mask mandate has expired, HOWEVER, the City of Portsmouth still has a mask ordinance in effect through June 30th. Until that also expires, we will continue to require masks to be worn in-store.
Appointments are still REQUIRED at MacEdge for everything other than a repair pickup. Same-day appointments are generally available.
If you are unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition, please contact us prior to making an appointment so that we may make alternative arrangements for your visit.

A Warning: Non-Authorized Service Providers
In the past week we have seen two iMacs in for repairs that had been damaged by two different non-authorized service shops in the area. Both units were under warranty, but the damage caused by these shops left these customers with out-of-warranty repair bills for damaged units. The worst offender was on a really nice 27-inch iMac where a shop attempted to upgrade the customer to a large SSD. Now keep in mind that iMacs are sealed units with some heavy duty double-sided tape, this will be important in a moment. The SSD was literally zip-tied inside the machine, no mounting bracket or adapters (seriously, you can buy a cheap one on Amazon for $10… how lazy!). It was re-assembled using non-Apple adhesive, and while the customer was using it, the display literally fell off and shattered, and the display cables inside the machine ripped out due to the force damaging the logic board. Then to add insult to injury, the repair shop did not give the customer back the drive that was removed, or the original drive bracket.
For reference, the ONLY OTHER Apple Authorized Service Provider in the region is Best Buy. Not a single one of these other shops has ANY relationship with Apple. They don’t use genuine parts (“OEM” does not mean “Genuine”!), their techs are NOT certified by Apple, and Apple will not back (ie: warranty) any repair done by these companies.
The pandemic has affected us all over the past year, especially small businesses. It brings us pride that we continue to provide you with the products you need and the services that you can count on, all within a safe atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you during your next scheduled appointment at MacEdge.
