    Description

The Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee invites you to attend a facilitated discussion with a panel of experts who will address the Family and Medical Leave options currently being debated in the NH State Legislature.

    Our panel includes:

Kristin Smith of the UNH Carsey School of Public Policy, is a family demographer and research associate professor.  She has published a co-edited book, Economic Restructuring and Family Well-being in Rural America, and her work has been reported in the NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, and the Boston Globe, among others.  Kristin's extensive experience will be invaluable to our discussion.

Amanda Sears is the Director of the Campaign for a Family-Friendly Economy for the Civix Strategy Group, an advocacy organization based in Concord.  Amanda works to build momentum for policies that help New Hampshire people make ends meet and to be there for their families when they are in need.  She has been very involved with the pending Family Medical Leave legislation, and will bring that perspective to the discussion.

Senator Martha Fuller-Clark has also been very involved with the pending legislation and will join the panel, schedule allowing.

This issue impacts our community in many ways, including our ability to attract and retain our workforce with growing and ageing families.  Businesses of all sizes - small to very large - will want to understand the barriers and benefits and how family medical leave - paid or unpaid - could impact their bottom line.
