Description
In this live presentation sponsored by the Seacoast Jazz Society as part of its Spring Lecture Series, guitarist and fundraiser MATT BECKER will offer insight and tips on how to promote your band and get better gigs.
Topics will include:
(1) How to prepare to get a gig—before you approach a club owner or venue;
(2) What to consider when choosing a venue to approach and how to present your band so you get the attention you want; and
(3) Now that you’ve got a gig—what you can and should do to promote the gig so you build attendance and followers.
Becker is well-known in the Seacoast community for combining his passion of both music and fundraising to produce benefit concerts for nonprofits that he is dedicated to serving. In addition to being a board member of Seacoast Jazz Society, Matt is a volunteer at Continuum Arts Collective and a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire (since 2008). The benefit concerts that he’s produced and played in (since 2018) have raised more than $130,000 for BBBSNH and Continuum Arts Collective combined.
As a guitarist, Matt has shared the stage with a range of musicians from local to national acts and has sold out venues including Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club, The Music Hall, The Press Room, BLUE, The Stone Church, and The Word Barn. He is currently a founding member and rhythm/slide guitar player for the “YellowHouse Blues Band”. Prior to that, he was a founding member and rhythm guitar player for “The Wildflowers.”
This is one of many events offered by the Seacoast Jazz Society, a 501(c)(3) NH nonprofit founded in 1990 to foster jazz education and appreciation; community outreach; support of local musicians, scholarships for young artists; and performances and events.
