PORTSMOUTH - On Dec. 13, Step Up Parents will ride for a cause for the fourth year in a row during LizFit's Spinning Generosity! Spinning Generosity is a seven-day indoor cycling fundraiser where riders and sponsors raise money for seven local organizations. This year, Step Up Parents has increased their fundraising goal to $25,000, which will support their mission to assist kinship families caring for children affected by parental substance use disorder.
With early generous support from Service Credit Union, local business, the 18 riders who will join in Friday's spin class, and individuals in the community, Step Up Parents has raised nearly 60% of the required funds.
It is not too late to sponsor or donate to this cause. Interested businesses or individuals can contribute to the GoFundMe campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/f/step-up-parents-spinning-generosity-2024 or reach out to Step Up Parents at jparker@stepupparents.org for more information.
"We are grateful for everyone supporting our team during Spinning Generosity," said Jessica Parker, Step Up Parents' executive director. "We rely on donations from our friends in the community to carry out our mission. We truly appreciate being part of an event that brings so many people in the community together to make a lasting difference in the lives of kinship care givers and the children they are raising!"
Since launching in 2019, SUP has given over $300,000 in direct assistance to more than 600 families, helping bring stability and hope to nearly 1,000 "kinship kids." Year over year, the need for assistance from SUP has grown. In 2023, SUP helped 176 families with 305 children.
