  • Dr. Sonya Hovsepian to provide patient care and teach residents at Goodwin Community Health

SOMERSWORTH - Goodwin Community Health recently welcomed Sonya Hovsepian, MD, MPH, as a new primary care provider and core faculty for the Family Medicine Residency program. She previously worked with the residency program at Appledore Family Medicine in Portsmouth.

Dr. Hovsepian provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages, including preventative medicine services, chronic disease management, and treatment of acute conditions. She is accepting new patients of all ages at Goodwin, which is part of Greater Seacoast Community Health’s network of community health centers.

Physicians in the Family Medicine Residency Program, which is affiliated with Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Tufts University, care for patients at Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth. They also do some of their training at Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth, another one of Greater Seacoast’s health centers. In addition to training the next generation of physician leaders, the residency program has helped Goodwin to increase its patient caseload, making health care more accessible for patients.
“With the addition of Dr. Hovespian, the residency program will continue to provide the best care for our patients while providing residents with a well-rounded experience to support their careers as physicians,” said Dr. Joann Buonomano, a core faculty member of the residency program and Greater Seacoast’s Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Hovsepian earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, and completed her residency at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, New York. She also earned a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity to work at a federally qualified health center,” said Dr. Hovsepian. “I’m passionate about health equity and I have several years of experience working with patients who are medically underserved.”

In addition to practicing family medicine, Dr. Hovesepian is trained in Reiki, yoga, and meditation.

“I love seeing people realize the most radiant versions of themselves,” said Dr. Hovsepian.
